Perfect for a bit of Saturday morning grooving, we bring you mix #5 from our Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising drive. Faze Action’s Simon Lee dropped in last Sunday and raided his record collection to bring us this storming little set of jazzy gems. This one’s all over the place (in a good way) and there’s plenty of choice tunes to wax lyrical about. We kick off with some Burt Bacharach(!), take in the classic jazz dance of Dee Felice Trio and Johnny Lytle, surrender the (jazz) funk to George Duke and discover a bit of afro boogie (a new one on us, let us know if you can ID it!). Yambu’s killer ‘Sunny‘ moves us into the second part of the set before we get a little Hank Crawford ‘Sugar Free‘, a couple of Brazilian bits and the ever so funky disco boogie of Joe Thomas’ ‘Funky Fever‘. As always,

Mix #4 rears it’s head and after yesterday’s little diversion into Latin and Brazilian territory from Jake Holloway, we delve right back into the jazz. Recorded live at last Sunday’s Jazz Meet Fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support, this time around Wah Wah 45s label boss Dom Servini steps up to the tables and as you’d expect, doesn’t disappoint. Pulling from a catalogue of music spanning the last 60 years, Dom drops newness from Zara McFarlane and the Hackney Colliery Band, and blends it with such classics from Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gary Bartz, Dizzy Gillespie and Sail-Joia. Oh and he even includes one of our favourite records in the form of the Ed Kelly Ensemble‘s mesmerizing ‘Samba‘. Result! Listen up and if you haven’t checked the other four mixes in the series, seek them out as well. Then please help us do something great for charity and pop a couple of quid in

The third recording from our recent Macmillan Cancer Support fundraiser this past Sunday is selected by the DJs’ DJ and cratedigger extraordinaire Jake Holloway, who dug deep to bring us this heavy selection of Latin funk, jazz and Brazilian music. If you like your rhythms funky and your melodies sweet, then this one is for you. Featuring music from Henri Pierre Noel, Marquez, Ronald Mesquita, Ed Maciel and Ocho to name but a few, this is one seriously choice selection. You can check out more of Jake’s mixes over on his Mixcloud… go and say hi, you know you want to! We’ve still got three sets to come from Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45s), Simon Lee (Faze Action) and Jazz Meet resident Jarred Rice and you can download all six (including this one) by simply making a small donation on our Justgiving page. and helping us raise a bit of cash for charity.
