We’d like to extend a big thank you to everyone who dropped in at our first session at the new venue this past Sunday. It really did exceed all our expectations and we can’t wait to settle into our new home every Sunday. Special thanks go out to our guest selector Tony Hylton, who dropped in after his set at Shiftless Shuffle next door to bless us with a lovely selection of fresh dancefloor jazz business to entertain the few dancers that joined us for the late session. (Particular shout to Kola and Rocky on that one!) Here are some pictures of the band taken by Irven Lewis (Check his site out at http://www.irvenlewisphotography.com/) which if you’re unfamiliar with the new space, should give you an idea of what we’re working with! We’re back this Sunday with The Greg Foat Group (Jazzman Records) LIVE in session and resident DJs Rob

Back in the Summer of 2008, a then fledging digital record label known as TrebleO, helmed by Dominic Stanton AKA Domu and Dave Farlam AKA Shift, brought us this little gem of a jazz EP from The Sub Ensemble. It was one of only a few releases that the Birmingham jazz collective, fronted by bassist Chris Mapp, would release under the guise despite another tune ‘Humans’ being featured on a 4hero Extensions album around about the same time. The label soon sadly closed (as Domu retired from the music business) and although it appears Chris has pursued other projects since, The Sub Ensemble slowly disappeared from sight. Until now. Fast forward four years and the Two Hungry Ghosts has deemed it fit to shine a spotlight back on the EP again. And this time’s there’s absolutely no reason to sleep on it as it’s currently being offered up as a
Here’s another heavyweight guest mix for you, this time from British collector and DJ Tony Hylton. Greatly influenced by the UK’s jazz dance elite of the late 80s, over the past 20 years Tony has DJed across the country and is currently a regular guest at the UK’s foremost jazz dance clubs Out To Lunch (Nottingham) and Shiftless Shuffle (London). Here he supplies us with a small 45 minute taster of his expansive record collection. Kicking off with the excellent ‘Watarase’ by Takeo Moriyama, the tempos duck and weave as Tony presents a true selection of jazz dance killers. We hope you enjoy the mix and if you dig, drop Tony a comment or two. Tony will be DJing alongside Nick Hosier at Shiftless Shuffle at East Village this Sunday, before dropping into our inaugural Jazz Meet next door at Floripa to give us a further taste of his skills.
