After a little break, we return with a killer mix of Fender Rhodes based jazz music from British jazz collector and DJ Tony Higgins. After his recent Japanese jazz mix, we are thrilled to host this second selection and it’s chock full of assorted flavours with the only constant being that all of the songs feature the use of the much celebrated electric piano. And boy does it sound great for it! Kicking off with Mikio Masuda’s sublime ‘Let’s Get Together’, the mix deeps and weaves through vocal jazz, straight up soul jazz and a little fusion here and there, with tracks from the likes of Barry Miles, Horace Silver (with Andy Bey), Duke Pearson, Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express, Primo Kim and one of the dons on the Fender Rhodes, Frank Cunnimodo all featuring. The mix culminates with an awesome piece of music from early 70s Ian Carr and Nucleus.

Introducing number 69 in our series of jazz mixtapes, this time around selected by Jazz Meet resident and Mukatsuku Records boss Nik Weston and it’s a gorgeous slice of jazzy goodness just waiting to be discovered. We kick off with the Peggy Lee fronted 45 classic “Alright, Okay, You Win’ before a little, rare as hen’s teeth Swedish jazz funk from Svenska Löd Ab ups the tempo. The dance classic “Brotherhood” from Kamal and the Brothers follows before another highly sought after piece from Don Cunningham and his “Tabu” rears it’s head and Larry Ridley and The Crusaders drop further great examples of soul-infused fusion aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Hubert Law’s then gives us a little mellow flute action on the classic “The Baron” before Nik rounds it all off with the epic “Nine” from LaMont Johnson (Check that Fender Rhodes sound!). We hope you enjoy this little selection

Something just a touch different this week, which serves as a little warm up for this weekend’s live event at Floripa in Shoreditch featuring a live Latin Jazz Experiment. Havana Cultura’s Vince Vella dropped this little mixtape into us as a precursor to his guest DJ set on Sunday and it’s a tasty journey through Latin rhythms. Digging deep in the legendary Cuban Areito (Egrem) label’s vaults, Vince pulls out a killer selection of mambos, descargas, rumba and of course, Latin jazz, aimed squarely at the dancefloor. A strictly vinyl mix featuring tracks from Irakere, Los Papines, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Los Van Van, Beny Moré Afrocuba, Los Munetico de Matanzas, Juan Pablo Torres and more, kick back, relax, press play and start your weekend off right! As ever, thanks for listening and we hope you can join us at Floripa sometime in June. We’ve got some great events lined up for
