Something new from Beyondjazz and Emanative

Beyondjazz Volume 4
I got a heads up over the weekend that one of our very talented friends Nik Woodmansey had  unleashed another of the gems from his intergalactic jazz Emanative project. Word has it that it’s winging its way to us slowly and with any luck should enter our star system sometime close to March 28th 2011 when the veritable Beyondjazz team is due to include it on their forthcoming compilation, Beyondjazz Vol. 4. Anyone with a passing interest in future jazz sounds, or simply jazz in general, should (if you’re not on it already) check out the Beyondjazz podcast and compilation series for an insight into the more eclectic range of styles available within the modern-day jazz spectrum.

Emanative’s Space In Veda (Dub-In-Vader Mix) is very much one of the many highlights on the comp, and sees Nick rework the track (Originally featured on the 2009 debut Space) with Emanative bandmates including Jazz Meet legend Jessica Lauren in a dub style. Nick’s usual superb production and sparse drumming complement the elastic riddim produced by Jess’s use of Vox organ, synths, pads, tape delays and Rhodes, while Ben Hadwen‘s woodwind instruments recall the live organic feel of the original. Other contributions on the release worth noting include the driving jazzy groove of Chris Barker‘s ‘Out Of The Dark’ and the dreamy sample heavy composition ‘Awakening’ from Kira Neris.

Before its end of March release, you can preview all the tracks on the comp in full using the player below.

Nick is also in London this coming Thursday for a Emanative DJ at United80 in Brixton Village, Coldharbour Lane. For more information about that, check out the Hands On Music Blog.
