Jazz Meet resident Rob Coley delivers this next mix in the series, and it’s chock full of funkiness. 54 minutes of music tried and tested at our weekly event and plenty of killers ripe for rediscovery. Things kick off with ‘JP’s Thing’, a nod to the late great Frank Foster who passed away three weeks ago, and it sets the mood perfectly with its surging melodies and righteous, brash tones. Next up we get the funky jazz fusion of Tatsuya Takahashi and The Tokyo Union and the jazz funk stylings of Ramon Morris and Buddy Terry, before the one and only Peter Herbolzheimer gives Weldon Irvine’s classic ‘Mr. Clean’ a proper big band makeover. Things switch up a bit courtesy of the spiritual jazz of Billy Harper and Jef Gilson, before Art Blakey’s ‘Master Mind’ and the Colman Brothers’ ‘The Chief’ round everything off on a high note.
