As winter draws in here in London, we take a little sunny diversion this week and head to Rio with this little Brazilian jazz selection. Marcus Bear (DO YOU LIKE MUSIC?) dropped this into the Jazz Meet inbox earlier in the week, and we take great pleasure in sharing it with you now. Plenty of dusty vinyl to keep you amused (If you’ve got OCD though, understand these cannot be cleaned – so expect some crackles) and plenty of heavy hitters on the track listing. Marcus kicks off with the samba stylings of Os Tincoas before heading deep into bossa and Brazilian jazz territory with the first of three Edu Lobo tracks and some lovely piano work from the Zimbo Trio. Music from a young Sergio Mendes, Miltinho and Elza Soares follow before we up the tempo with an old Jazz Meet favourite in the form of Som Tres’ swinging ‘Jungle’. We round off this little set with a little more Edu (the funky ‘Cinco Criancas Sem Dono’), Ceu Da Boca and Jorge Ben. Thanks for listening!
