We’ve got a very special treat this week for number #65 in our mix series as we welcome jazz collector Tony Higgins into the fold. The executive producer of Gilles Peterson’s ‘Impressed’ UK jazz compilations, he’s currently working on a new comp of Japanese jazz for the label and he’s put together this little selection to give us a flavour of what to expect from the release. And what a selection! Plenty of heavy hitters of a hard bop and deep modal variety from some of Japan’s finest jazz musicians. Having collected records for 25 years and in recent years, 78s, he can be found occasionally DJing rhythm and blues, gospel, jump blues, Latin and jazz at club nights and festivals around The UK – this year he will be playing at Secret Garden Party, Bestival and Camp Bestival. You can also check out Tony’s own monthly club night in London ‘The Mess Around’. We thank Tony for the opportunity to host this mix and hope you enjoy it!
