This week’s jazz mix comes from Norwegian born cratedigger, DJ, label entrepreneur and current Finnish resident Fredrik Lavik. In his spare time he runs the most excellent Afro7 blog, which focuses on spreading the word of great music from Kenya and the East Africa region. He is also an avid jazz collector and here he supplies us with a stellar guest mix of strictly jazz singles. An assortment of styles, Frederik kicks things off with a rare 45 from The Hippest Set and follows it up with a little Eddie Gale and a Blue Note favourite from Donald Byrd. Next up we have vocalese from Eddie Jefferson and his version of ‘Freedom Jazz Dance’ and further tracks from The Jack Quigley Trio, Ken Jensen and Howard McGee. There’s fiery jazz funk from flautist Sam Most, killer dancefloor jazz from Music Inc & CBA Ensemble and funky fusion from Starcrost before a pair of 45s from Stark Reality and J.B & The V-king bring things to a close. Thanks for listening!
