Rob Coley
Rob Coley | DJÂ
Since a move brought him to the capital from his native Leicester back in September 2001, Rob Coley has been a semi-regular fixture on London’s dancefloors for near on a decade.
Catching the DJ bug back in the late 90s while at college in Nottingham, a stint back in Leicester in 2000 saw Rob helm his first weekly residencies, with his soon to be insatiable desire for new and classic vinyl helping keep many East Midlands record shops in the black. Armed with a growing pile of fresh wax, it soon became clear he had to do something with it and inspired by the legendary London Whistlebump events of the time, ‘Soul-Identity Music‘ was born in late 2003. With eclecticism at its root and influenced by the many revered DJs of New York and London he often followed, Rob’s love for music spans hip-hop, soul, underground house, jazz and Afro Latin rhythms, always dipping into the past and present, while keeping an eye on emerging trends.
Over the past 10 years Rob has DJed and held down regular residencies in some of London’s finest nightspots, including Vibe Bar, Favela Chic, Proud Camden, Bedroom Bar and Barrio North, as well as other notable gigs nationwide and overseas. He is also responsible for organising and promoting the annual Soul-Identity Summer Shakedown Boat Parties on the Thames, which after successful voyages alongside Greg Wilson and DJ Format in 2009 and 2010 respectively, entered its third year last summer with a house-inspired cruise featuring the DJ talents of Dan Beaumont and Nicholas.
Joining as a resident DJ/promoter of The Jazz Meet collective in 2009, he entered the world of live music promotion and can now be found gracing the decks of the new Brazilian restaurant cum club space Floripa twice a month, alongside some of London’s freshest live jazz talent.
