In our quest for the freshest Jazz sounds we’ve scoured the Net for mixes to entertain us on a rainy day. One of the people who has consistently dazzled us with his on-point selections and sequences is Mr Ian Barker. The man behind a number of our favourite mixtapes on Mixcloud, it was only a matter of time before we reached out and asked him to contribute. And sure enough he doesn’t disappoint with the mix he finally sent us. Running the gamut of Jazz styles, Ian delivers a host of goodness, taking in tried and tested as well as rare as hen’s teeth tunes, this is bound to bring a little sunshine to your weekend! Thanks for listening. TRACKLIST Les Hooper Big Band – Hurry Up And Wait Mistura – Coast To Coast The Tony Ansell Orchestra – Stonewall Samba Paz – Yours Is The Light The Tommy Whittle
After a few weeks off, we’re back in the saddle on the mixtape front and it’s left to our man in Belgrade, Spacewalker Milic to drop a tasty selection to get us off and running. Milic is the host of the long running Balanso show on Serbia’s B92 radio station (weekly Mondays 22:00-0:00 CET) and here he delves into his record vaults to share with us some of his current favourites on a jazz tip. We delve right in with a little Jon Hendricks cover of the Brazilian classic ‘Reza’, before continuing the South American theme with Clark Terry and Chico O’Farill’s take on ‘Tin Tin Deo’. Next up, there’s big band jazz from St Tropez Jazz Octett and a Jazz Meet fave in the form of Ahmad Jamal’s ‘Bogota’, before we head deeper into his collection to unearth Arthur Lyman, Oliver Nelson, Serge Gainsbourg and some Hungarian jazz from
Resident Rob Coley returns to the Jazz Meet turntables for his first mix of 2013, bringing with him a stack of newness on the jazz front to please your ears over 54 minutes of assorted flavours.
This week we’re proud to present this little selection from resident Sid Ford. Originally mixed, pressed and distributed to promote ‘File Under Jazz’, a Shoreditch jazz night Sid started back in 2006, this awesome CD has been dug up from the archives for another airing. Chock full of soulful, funky jazz numbers aimed straight at the talcum powdered dancefloor, it’s a worthy contender for our (official) 50th cloudcast and we hope you enjoy discovering (or rediscovering!) the rare grooves inside. Johnny Frigo, Joe Henderson, Cold Blood, Shirley Scott, Bobby Bryant and Doug Carn are just some of the names featured on the tracklist but believe us when we say all the music is top-notch. There’s a 2nd mix in the series that we may track down in the future, but for the meantime, enjoy this little gem and if you’re in London this Sunday, pop into The Shoreditch, E1 to
