As we gear up to say goodbye to Jazz Meet resident Jarred Rice this weekend as he heads off to pastures new in Canada, we thought now would be a great time to revisit this little Jazz Mix he completed for the ‘Stolen Moments’ radio show on Melbourne’s 3RR earlier this year. It’s quite probably the funkiest mixtape we’ve ever hosted and highlights just why we hold Jarred in such high regard. A cursory look at the tracklist suggests not your usual jazz fare and with just under an hour of music to discover, he most certainly takes us on a journey through the crates. There’s breaks and basslines a plenty as Jarred pulls out seldom seen tracks from the likes of Affirmation, Earl Moseley, Gas Mask and Shades of Joy to name but a few, including fusion, funk, and a little rock along the way. So delve in and let us know what you think, and of course if you would like to join us at Floripa this Sunday to raise a glass to the man himself you know where we are!
