Resident Rob Coley returns to the Jazz Meet turntables for his first mix of 2013, bringing with him a stack of newness on the jazz front to please your ears over 54 minutes of assorted flavours. Within, you’ll find epic modern jazz from the Ambient Jazz Ensemble, lush piano work from Tucci, Mannutza and an awesome cover of Pharoah Sanders’ ‘Upper Egypt’ by Darryl Reeves. Elsewhere, there’s newly reissued material from Kindred Spirits and Sonorama, in the form of the ‘lost’ Hannibal LP ‘The Tribe’ and deep German jazz from Harald Eckstein Sextett. Ahead of this weekend’s tribute to the master Dr. Donald Byrd, there’s a newly minted outing (also on Sonorama), of a lost film soundtrack featuring the late trumpeter and drummer Barney Wilen, before we revisit ‘Blues For Six’, a track from the new Mark de Clive-Love / Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra longplayer on Tru Thoughts. Rounding everything off is a monster 16 minute improvised jam from another orchestra, Fire! Thank you for listening.
