We resume our regular schedule after last week’s special series of mixes with a guest mix from Michael Linney AKA The Hedonist. Michael got in contact with us late last week to offer up a mix to help promote our Macmillan Cancer Support fundraiser, and so here it is! It kicks off with two tracks starring Finnish trumpet man Jukka Eskola, ‘Chip’N’ Charge’ from his sophomore LP ‘Walkover’ and ‘Kiev So Sora’, a feature alongside Japan’s Octet Sunaga T. Ethiojazz sensation Samuel Yirga follows before the Sachal Studios Orchestra give us an interesting take on Dave Brubeck’s ‘Take Five’. There’s a little more hard bop with Bill English’s ‘Heavy Soul’, taken from his self-titled LP on Vanguard before Clifford Jordan and John Gilmore bring us the majestic ‘Blue Lights’. We close out with a touch of modal from Earl and Carl Grubbs’ ‘Kimball’ and ‘Black Goddess’ from Remi Kabaka Adenihun/Biddy Wright/Dele Okonkwo/Joni Haastrup (Out now on Soundway Records). Thanks for listening.
