It’s a special DJ Box feature this week as we put resident selector Sid Ford under the spotlight and ask him what his big dancefloor tunes of the moment are. Sid (or Andrew to his Mum) is possibly one of the most stylish men we know and this trait clearly extends to his brilliantly curated record box. A keen jazz enthusiast, with a discerning ear for a cheeky soul number or fiery Latin or Afro funk record too, he consistently dazzles us with his selections in the booth and with a more than passing interest in the new breed of British jazz, he serves as a constant inspiration to all of us here at The Jazz Meet. The DJ Box… Mr Boogie AKA The Vinyl Junkie (Soulsa)

This Sunday at The Jazz Meet we welcome Latin Jazz specialist Mr Boogie AKA The Vinyl Junkie to the Floripa DJ booth. With a focus on all things Cal Tjader set to go down, it seemed only right to get the man involved and with him comes not only a stack of hot Tjader wax from his own collection but also the extensive knowledge of how to rock a dancefloor, which might prove a little useful late on into the dance. Born in Paris but of Ugandan heritage, Mr Boogie spent his formative years in France and West Africa before moving to the UK as a teenager. During his travels, he also managed to make a few stopovers in New York as well as Cuba, where ultimately he caught the Latin music bug. For this Sunday’s Jazz Meet session we have not one, but two very special guests. On stage we welcome back the wonderful voice of renowned vocalist Heidi Vogel, while on the DJ tip, we also anticipate the return of Little Miss Sunshiine herself, Orsii who once again joins us at Floripa to drop two sets of killer jazz business. If there’s one thing we already know, it’s that Orsii knows her vinyl. As Senior Manager of Fat City Records and the person that takes care of the Jazzman Records online store, she’s surrounded by the stuff and with a musical education influenced by the likes of Gilles Peterson (from her time working at Brownswood), Black Classical and of course, Jazzman Gerald, she’s amassed a pretty tasty collection of awesome jazz herself. A keen radio broadcaster, she’s a popular personality on Mixcloud and alongside Gerald, also co hosts the monthly Jazzman Records radio

This Sunday we’re very pleased to welcome one of the First Ladies of the London club scene,  Ms Marcia Carr to the Floripa DJ Box. A long-standing face in the capital as a DJ, radio presenter, journalist, former street/jazz dancer and founder of her own music PR / Artist agency Talking Music Productions, she truly has given her life up for the music and this weekend, you can find her blessing us with a little set of jazzy dancefloor treats from her extensive record library. This Sunday at Floripa, as well as welcoming singer and pianist Sean Haefeli on the live front, we will be joined in the DJ box by one of our favourite connoisseurs of jazz and beyond, Weegee. Inspired by the sessions that the legendary Paul Murphy presided over at the time, Weegee started DJing way back in 1984 and nearly 30 years on you can still find him in the booth playing some of the most incredible music he’s collected over the years. Since those most hallowed of days, his tastes have certainly broadened but jazz is and still does remain his first love.
