Jazz Meet resident Jarred Rice is back behind the tables for the 79th installment in our jazz mixtape series. If you’ve caught any of his previous mixes, you know the man doesn’t mess around with his selections, and we have more of the same on this 50 minute mix. He kicks things off with an amazing piece of new music from The Greg Foat Group featuring Matthew Halsall, forthcoming on Jazzman Records, before easing in with French chanteuse Brigitte Fontaine and The Art Ensemble of Chicago. There’s some ECM business from Art Lande And Rubisa Patrol, a little soul jazz from John Patton, and straight up sounds from The Brew Moore Quintet and Duke Pearson. Jarred rounds off the mix with the brilliant Albert Ayler and the emotive vocal stomper ‘Heart Love’, Pretty Purdie smashing it on drums.
Jarred joins Nik Weston behind the decks this Sunday as we welcome one of the UK’s renowned drummers Richard Spaven to the Floripa stage. We hope you can join us and as ever, thanks for listening!
