The residents return this week as Rob Coley dips into his vintage vinyl vaults to provide a 60 minute selection of chilled jazz. By now you should all know about his ‘thing’ for keys so when John Hicks steps up with the seldom seen Strata East cut ‘Angie’s Tune’ to start proceedings we all know where this is heading. A Mainstream date for drummer Roy Haynes follows before Rene McClean blesses us with ‘Bilad as Sudan’ and Nat Adderley delivers ‘Traveler’. There’s further bass heavy goodness from Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers and that oft sampled b-line on ‘Chant For Bu’ before Hal Galper and Jimmy Heath head further into the deep jazz abyss with two tunes ripe for rediscovery. We round things off with a little dancefloor pressure from Stone Alliance and Sonny Stitt. As always, thanks for listening and you can catch Rob alongside fellow resident Jarred Rice at Floripa this Sunday as we welcome New Land Trio on to the live stage.
