For those of you who don’t know Mr Greg Foat is a very talented man. Not only does he play a mean Fender Rhodes, he also composes, arranges and writes the odd book or two. According to his Myspace, he’s also sitting on an absolute wealth of mastered(!) material that is just waiting to be released. And here’s where the world-renowned Jazzman Gerald steps forth. Choosing to take on the manufacture and distribution of Foat’s début release “Dark is the Sun” and put it out on his much-lauded Jazzman Records imprint, Gerald has pretty much ensured that this material will not only finally see the light of day but in fact be pitched at its perfect target audience straight from the off.
But before the full project lands, we’ve got a tasty EP of Greg’s sounds to look forward to, and in typical Jazzman fashion no expense is spared on product. Recorded 100% analogue in Sweden in the spring of last year and limited to 500 hand-printed, hand-stamped and hand-numbered 10″ vinyls, the EP contains 3 tracks of “non-contemporary jazz sounds with classic scoring techniques, utilizing an exotic array of unorthodox instrumentation including harpsichord, tubular bells and a 15 piece choir”. Sounds ACE and what’s more you don’t have to take our word for it, as you can stream all three tracks using the controls below. Just check out the first track to hear that description above in full!
