This week’s jazz mix comes from London record collector/DJ Rob Le Marchand (RLM) who’ll be our guest at The Jazz Meet alongside resident Rob Coley this coming Sunday. Having spent much of his formative years working in the record business, Rob has collated an enviable collection of soul, funk and jazz vinyl, and right here he shares a selection of his favourite jazz tracks. Starting with the spiritual overtones of Joe Lee Wilson’s ‘Theme/Aquarian Melody’ and leading into an epic Latin jazz session from Sabu Martinez, Rob digs deep to bring us an assorted bunch of heavyweight tunes. Joe Henderson’s ‘Tress-Cun-Deo-La’ rubs shoulders with Dewey Redman’s Middle Eastern flavoured ‘Unknown Tongue’, before we get two irresistable jazz dance classics in the form of Norman Connor’s ‘Mother of the Future’ and Byron Morris and Unity’s ‘Kitty Bey’. Don Cunningham’s rare as hen’s teeth ‘Tabu’ rounds off the mix alongside ‘Rocket Number Nine’ from the man they called Ra. Enjoy!
