The Japanese theme continues this week as we present a guest mix from Tokyo DJ and record producer Hironobu Jyounai, whose PRIMO & The Groupe project has set dancefloors alight recently after a series of vinyl EPs. Here he compiles a brilliant uptempo mix of contemporary jazz, classic hard-bop sounds and assorted Japanese rarities for a brief 45 minute throwdown. Marc Hemmeler kicks everything off with a delightful samba before the Hideo Shiraki Quintet drop a killer version of ‘Sayonara Blues’, Art Blakey’s classic ‘Ping Pong’ rears it’s head and Takeshi Inomata takes us to ‘Green Dolphine Street’. The Ryusei Tomoyose Quartet bring us the evocative ‘Movement’ before the unmistakable baritone of new Blue Note Records signing Jose James breaks through on ‘Body and Soul’. Michel Klotchkoff Trio and Chris Woods take us into the home straight with ‘Full Space’ before the playful ‘Goofin’ Each Other’ from Pianox4 and ‘Thank You Chopin’ from the Romano Mussolini Trio round off the mix. Thanks for listening.
