We continue the Brazilian theme this week as Jazz Meet resident Nik Weston of MUKATSUKU fame digs deep into his record collection to pull out a selection of classics from the Latin American country just in time for your weekends. Kicking things off with the Brazilian standard ‘Cravo E Canelo’ by MPB4, we ease into the atmospheric ‘Ala Boca Menino’ by Joao Donato before Gilberto Gil’s version of ‘Roda’ kicks in. Music from Jaime Nair, Marcos Valle, Os Incrives, Elza Soares and Milton Banana Trio (amongst others) all follow before Nik brings things to a rousing close with Claudette Soares’ rousing ‘Os Grillos’. Jazz Meet resident and Mukatsuku Records label boss Nik Weston steps to the turntables this week to deliver another 40 minute slice of jazz direct from his extensive record collection. He kicks things of with Dizzy Gillespie’s effortlessly funky take on ‘Matrix’ before unleashing the much loved ‘Psychedelic Sally’ from Horace Silver and his quintet. Two covers follow with Blue Mitchell taking on Cymande’s ‘The Message’ while Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers bring their classic version of Bobby Timmons’ ‘Dat Dere’. There’s then Japanese jazz from Norio Maeda & All Stars and Ryusei Tomoyose Quartet, killer funky jazz from Sam Most, a touch of soul from Alice Clark and a second composition from Horace Silver, this time around the title track taken from his 1966 album ‘The Jody Grind’. Finally, Nik wind things down with the modern deep jazz classic ‘A Vision’ by vocalist Bajka on Jazzman Records. We

Right here, you can expect 45 minutes of the finest Brazilian jazz, bossa and samba all taken from the original vinyl, so lie back, pour yourself a Caipirinha and get into the sounds of the combined talents of Jorge Ben, Milton Nascimento, Sergio Mendes, Milton Banana, Os Originais do Samba and a whole host of quality artists from the world of MPB and beyond.

Ray Bryant kicks things off with the heavyweight ‘Up Above The Rock’ before Ronnie Foster delivers the classic ATCQ sampled ‘Mystic Brew’. We then dip into some vocal-led soulfulness from Mike James Kirkland, Sarah Vaughan and Linda Tillery and a touch of Brazilian bossa jazz from Sylvia Telles.
