As we all prepare for tonight’s Latin jazz event with Caractacus the Conga Conquerer and his Afro Latin Ensemble at Favela Chic London, we thought it was about time we sent out a timely reminder about this coming Sunday’s Jazz Meet event, which we have set aside to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support (Hopefully the first of many causes we hope to support). A few of us over the course of our lives have lost friends and family to cancer and we thought throwing a little jazz gig would be the best course of action to pay a little back to the amazing support this one charity has provided to us on more than one occasion.
So for this week’s line-up we’re doing something a bit special. In addition to live sets from The Jazz Meet Band Allstars (featuring amongst others Jessica Lauren on Keys, Jake Telford on Sax, Max O’Donnell on Guitar and Jason Simpson on Bass), we’ve assembled a heavyweight DJ lineup who’ll be joining us behind the decks and sharing some of their rare jazz vinyl for a bit of a dancefloor soundclash. In the evening, Faze Action’s Simon Lee, better known in recent years for wearing his disco production hat, will be dropping in and dipping into his crates to provide an exclusive jazz and Latin set, whilst head honcho of Wah Wah 45s Dom Servini will also be making an appearance fresh from his exploits in Montenegro (Montenegrin jazz anyone?). We welcome back the queen of Mixcloud and Laidback Radio, Orsii for another deeper than deeper set of Jazzman-induced jazz killers while BBE’s crate digger extraordinaire Jake Holloway completes the quartet and will surely daze us with some of his latest finds. Add to the pot, the combined talents of your Jazz Meet residents, Sid, Jarred and Rob and you’ve got a pretty jam-packed day of jazz treats ahead.
It’s a one-off (suggested not mandatory) £3 entry fee this week as ALL proceeds, including door, fees waived by DJs and band members, and a percentage of the bar take, will be donated to Macmillan with the view to helping them continue their work with those affected by cancer on a nationwide basis.
So on Sunday 21st August 2011, we hope for this one occasion, you can pass through and join us for a drink or two… and come listen to the music as we remember friends past and present.
If you can’t make Sunday’s event but would still like to make a small donation towards the cause, please visit our JustGiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/thejazzmeet.
