August has quickly reared it’s head and we’ve got more great things lined up at The Jazz Meet for the rest of summer. Read on to find out more… We kick things off this month at Floripa on Sunday 5th August with the first of two resident sessions. The Jazz Meet Band led by Jake Telford on sax and Jessica Lauren on keys will be in attendance, ably assisted by resident DJs Sid Ford and Jarred Rice on the decks. On August 12th, as the XXX Olympiad packs its bags and heads to Heathrow to catch a plane to Rio, we’ll be putting on our very own closing party with a Brazilian Special featuring the vocal talents of MS HEIDI VOGEL, the Jazz Meet Band and DJs Nik Weston and Rob Coley. And finally, if you’re not heading out westside on Bank Holiday Sunday 26th August, we’ll be putting on
So with May just around the corner, let’s take a quick look back at some of April’s highlights at Floripa. We welcomed performers Heidi Vogel and Al Scott onto the Jazz Meet stage for two brilliant guest gigs and the house band continued to wow the crowds with some seriously killer sessions (particularly now we’ve welcomed our boy Francesco Mendolia back into the fold on drums!). We’ve got more surprises up our sleeve for May but before then let’s dip into a few of those videos… The Jazz Meet Band, April 1st… The Jazz Meet Band and special guest Heidi Vogel and Dudu Marques on drums revisit ‘Mas Que Nada’, April 8th… The Al Scott Trio supply ‘Northern Smiles’, April 22nd… But video of the month has to go to photographer and film maker Irven Lewis who dropped in on April 15th and filmed this tantalising black and white short.
So after our opening month in March at our new venue Floripa in Old Street EC2, we return for another five events in April bringing live jazz 5pm-12am every Sunday. In April, our resident live jazz band led by Jessica Lauren (Freestyle Records) and Jake Telford (OK_MA) will be playing four of the dates, bringing their own unique brand of dance floor friendly soul jazz to the floor. With a special Easter event lined up for April 8th you can also expect a few of our famous friends to drop in too (edit: Ms Heidi Vogel is now confirmed!). On Sunday April 22nd, we welcome the prodiguous talent Al Scott to our main stage. Heavily influenced by the master Bill Evans and fresh from releasing his debut LP ‘Introducing The Al Scott Trio’ late last year, the young musician brings his trio to play a rare set of piano-driven jazz.
