Recorded just over a week ago as Jessica Lauren put together a special Jazz Meet house band and to kick off our 2013 calendar at Floripa on Sunday 13th January. Here the ensemble rip through a brilliant interpretation of Pépé Bradock celebrated deep house classic ‘Deep Burnt’ before effortlessly shifting into the tune that it sampled, Freddie Hubbard’s ‘Little Sunflower’ (just listen to those strings!). With thanks to Colin Brown for the footage. November sees our weekly Sunday live jazz gathering return with another four fabulous dates to stick in your jazz diary. In this month’s guest spot on Sunday 20th November, we welcome back Bassist Jason Simpson who will be piecing together a talented quartet and a host of brand new original material for your listening pleasure. On the DJ front, we welcome guest selectors Nigel Prankster, Rob Whitlock, Orsii and Kevin Mar-Molinero into the fold to share some of their recent jazz discoveries and of course the resident DJ team plus The Jazz Meet Band (and not forgetting Max O’Donnell‘s popular Jazz, Roots and Grooves outfit on the 6th) will be on hand to raise the roof at every given opportunity. We’ve also got a very special date with Caractacus the Conga Conqueror and his Afro Latin Ensemble again this month. But more news on that shortly. Full Listing THE JAZZ
A timely reminder of some of last Sunday’s highlights (Seriously we could have posted the whole gig, but bandwidth for a 3 hour strong upload might have been a problem). As you may already know, The Jason Simpson Quintet joined us on stage last week, bringing with them their own imitable take on a whole host of jazz past and present, and it was a CLASSIC. Jason is so serious on the bass and the rest of the band were equally impressive (Keys, drums and horn section all were on point throughout the gig). And right here, there’s not even an example of the drummer Brian Hedderman’s scatting. ‘Little Sunflower‘, that’s all I’m saying (Those that know, know). We’ll definitely be getting these guys back again in the coming months so bide your time if you missed it. While you wait, check out the three videos below! The Band Jason
